AEBIOM (European Biomass Association) estimates that potentially the Italian cows and pigs breeding centers could produce 0.40 Mtep (million tons equivalent of petroleum); that means 4,500 GWh coming from manure.
At the International Dairy Cattle Show (Cremona Fairgrounds, October from 28th to 31st) will be presented hundreds of innovative solutions to exploit this opportunity.
Cremona – The last research by AEBIOM, the prestigious Brussels based association that promotes biogas production in Europe, says that the Italian potential in this sector is very high.
As a matter of fact, over 0.40 Mtep energy could be produced from cows and pigs manure. This fact confirms Italy at the sixth position in Europe after France (1.16 Mtep), Germany (0.88 Mtep), UK (0.58 Mtep), Spain (0.54 Mtep) and Poland (0.44 Mtep).
The AEBIOM research points out that Italy could reach the 6% of European biogas total production within 2020. That’s because breeding centers in Italy produce over 103 million tons of manure; a really big mine of biogas that the farmers could exploit to produce green energy and to increase their profits.
As a matter of fact, producing energy through manure can bring lots of benefits:
- Cutting of the high discharge costs;
- Reduction of organic nitrogen; that means a help in respecting the European nitrogen oxide limit;
- Increasing of the farm profits thanks to the sale of energy.
Keeping in mind that the main target of a farm has to be the food production, the profits increasing coming from the sale of energy can be really crucial for agriculture in this hard period.
The appointment for the farmers who want to know more about technologies, investments, potential profits and laws in this field, is at the International Dairy Cattle Show (Cremona Fairgrounds, October from 28th to 31st), where the most qualified firms coming from all over the world will present the best solutions to have success in the sector.
