The International Dairy Cattle Show celebrated one of its richest years in terms of novelties, foreign attendance and business opportunities.

Mr. Piva (the president of CremonaFiere): “Important and partially unexpected signs of optimism. In Cremona there is no room for pessimism. We could be at a turning point”

Cremona, October 25, 2009 – It is undeniable that agriculture and animal husbandry are experiencing a serious economic crisis at European level but the 64th International Dairy Cattle Show showed that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This is proved by the results of this year’s exhibition: four days full of events, proposals, novelties, business transactions and debates about the future of the Italian and international primary sector.

“The difficult period for the sector has lasted too long” said Antonio Piva, president of CremonaFiere “now we are at a turning point  and Institutions and professional associations brought to Cremona a surge of optimism. The last International Dairy Cattle Show demonstrated its major role as catalyst for business proposals and highlighted companies’ desire to overcome the crisis. During the four days of the exhibition there were signs of great vitality and desire to look beyond. The 29 highly qualified conferences and seminars were all great opportunities for high level debates”.

If on one side the International Dairy Cattle Show was a business tool to enhance companies’ business (just think about the great number of technological innovations on display and the new highly qualified business contacts), on the other side it was a powerful voice for an industry that has no intention of being overwhelmed by the crisis. The voice was loud and clear as demonstrated by the great media coverage that characterized this year’s exhibition (over 100 registered  Italian and foreign journalists and 9 TV channels, among them four Italian channels).

Someone could have thought about a modest exhibition due to the current economic situation but the presence of 847 brands (a 5 percent increase compared to the last exhibition), 68,327 visitors from all over the world and the many languages heard inside the pavilions confirmed the International Dairy Cattle Show as the world’s major exhibitions in the field.

“Also MeatItaly, the Beef Supply Chain Show which celebrated its first year,” said Piva “ met all expectations by presenting companies and cattle that drew the attention of domestic and foreign professionals. The dairy and beef sectors are strictly related, even with their own special features, and the International Dairy Cattle Show was the ideal opportunity to launch this new exhibition, organized by CremonaFiere and Assocarni and created with the aim of promoting the domestic agri-food production at the highest level. I would like to underline that this year we registered a strong increase in the number of foreign professional visitors (+11%) and this is a clear sign of the great recognition given to Italian know-how and to the International Dairy Cattle Show, which proved to be the perfect tool to promote our potential”.

Cremona presents, therefore, a better market situation than was expected in the last months and the International Dairy Cattle Show  stands out as a starting point for the relaunch of the sector in Italy and Europe.
